What Could Happen with One More Veggie a Day?

Remember that book, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff”? Well I agree wholeheartedly with that, except when it comes to food. Now I’m not suggesting you get in a tizzy when it comes to worrying about your food. I’m suggesting that little changes in your food choices could add up to a big difference in your health.

Let’s say you usually eat chips with your sandwich. You love your chips and I’m not going to be the one to take those away from you (yet!) But let’s just one day, you decided to add a carrot stick next to your chips. OK, not too bad, right? There’s a little more color on your plate and more crunch in your mouth. Let’s start seeing that carrot on your plate every day–then one day you think, that’s not too bad, I can add a few more!

Before you know it, you’ve trained yourself to ENJOY those carrot sticks. Pretty soon, those orange delights are going to fill you up until you might put a few LESS chips on your plate.

What’s the net result here of a small change?

Lots more vitamins including A & C, fiber, crunch = more satisfying meal, better digestion, healthier skin and eyes, perhaps lower risk of cancer

Fat, calories, sodium = long term weight management or weight loss

Now see what I mean about the small stuff? Don’t sweat it, but do think about it. It could make a difference to your health!
